JOYNT SCROLL DEBATE.

VICTORIA COLLEGE SUCCESS. AVELLINGTON, July 5. A r ictoria College won the annual Joynt Scroll debating contest in AVellington on Saturday against teams from the three other University colleges and Massey and Lincoln Agricultural Colleges. The Director of Education (Dr. C. E. Beeby), Mr 4V. J. Sim, K.C., and Mr F. IT. Bass judged the contest. Dr. Beeby announced the decision of tlie judges, awarding Victoria College 169 points, Otago University College 167, Canterbury College 150, and placing Auckland University College and Lincoln College next in order, equal, and Massey College last. The speakers for Massey College were Messrs D. M. Smith and R. D. Bamford.
