FOXTON.
In view of adverse circumstances it was considered that the past season was fairly satisfactory, says the report to bo presented at tho annual meeting of tho Foxton Bowling Club. Depleted membership and bad weather are mentioned in the report as difficulties which faced tho club. However some former members, including some promising players, had rejoined. “Delegates attended a conference in Levin in regard to the pennants competition and agreed to the conditions laid down,” adds the report. “It has been suggested that in future the club withdraw from this competition as it is a. repetition of the Triangular Shield. With an increased membership it is hoped that competition for two handsome trphics. the Pleasant Point Club and the Huntley Trophy, will again be taken up this season. These trophies were not competed for last year. Four tournaments were held but were very disappointing, with the exception of the first, which was well attended. The club was not represented in the championship singles, either senior or junior, and in the pairs and rinks competitions did not win certificates. A team from the club took part in the Dominion pairs and rinks, but did not get through to the finals. A shop-day in aid of the finances was held by the members ol tho Croquet Club to whom thanks are accorded. The effort was most successful and the funds benefited to the extent of £l3 7s lOd. The year just closed shows a reduction in the bank overdraft of £8 7s 4d and the.capital account, which stood at £39 at tho commencement of the season, has been reduced by £2O and now stands at £19.” A farewell party was given in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Palmerston North, to Mr I. S. Saveli, by his workmates, and friends. Mr Saveli, who has been instructed to. report to the Royal Now Zealand ;':Air Force Station at Ilarewood for training, is the second son of Mr and Mrs , E; Saveli, of Coley Street, Foxton. Music ■ for dancing was played by a professional orchestra and extras bv Mr L. Mattar. Mr K. Lane, on behalf of those present, presented Mr Saveli with a handsome leather writing case. A statement of assets, additional to the balance-sheet of the Foxton Christmas Cheer Committee, has been drawn up by the secretary (Mr 11. D. Dawson). The assets total £23 Os 4d. Eight strings of flags owned .by the committee have been discarded as unfit for further use, their total value when new being £34. There was 50 per cent, depreciation on the flags last year The total of the assets for this year is £l7 lower than the total last year, as the flags are. not included. In the four years in which the committee has been operating flags valued at £l2 15s have been stolen. Mrs H. T. Gilling, of Hamilton, is visiting Foxton as the guest of Mrs E. Francis, Ravensworth Place. Captain and Mrs J. R. Middleton and family, of Norbiton Road, expect to leave Foxton in the near future. Captain Middleton having disposed of his Norbiton Road property.
