CHRYSANTHEMUM CLUB.

Satisfaction is ' expressed in the annual report of the Palmerston North Chrysanthemum Club with the fact that the club’s finances arc healthy, all accounts paving been paid, leaving a small creditbalance. This balance would have been larger had not several necessary items of expenditure occurred this year, but these would not appear again.

“In comparison with previous years, both the quality and quantity of blooms grown by club members were improved distinctly, and it is felt that never before in the history of the club have such a fine, lot of blooms been grown in the one year,” stales the report. “This is proved by the Palmerston North Club winning the senior and junior inter-club competitions. The club also took the champion bloom award in the same competition and wt> wish to congratulate the grower, Mr Horace Shailor. This bloom, a Hilda Neale, also took the championship for the whole show. The educational value of the competitions is undoubted, but of far greater importance to bolh the Wanganui and Palmerston North clubs is its social aspect. The friendly interchange of visits to the gardens of members, and to the shows held in each centre, are a big factor in retaining the interest of members. Mention was made last year of the wider field of chrysanthemum culture which had previously been comparatively neglected, and it is gratifying to see a considerable improvement in the general section this year. Admittedly, the cultivation of show specimens is the primary interest of members, but they should -emember that they have a responsibility in this matter and it is their duty to chow the public just what the chrysanthemum family has to offer. This vear tne club inaugurated a club show which was a great success and this will probably become an annual fixture.”. The report conchtdcs with expressions of thanks to all who have assisted the club.
