MANAWATU B V. OROUA.

SUCCESS OF SUB-UNION. In the B grade representative match on Saturday, the Oroua Sub-Union beat Manawatu B by 12 points to 3 for the Wallace Cup. The match was quite a good one. though mostly confined to forwards. Manawatu were superior in the set scrums and Oroua good in tight play and in clearing from' their own goalline. For the winners probably Crowtiler and W. Gibb in the forwards and S Thompson and P. Shannon in the backs were the best players. Rutherford and Wilson showed up in. the Manawatu pack and Thompson and Cuff in the backs. Carr was sound at full-back. L. Thompson kicked a penalty goal shortly after the start and S. Thompson scored a try in the corner from a scrum near the line. The half-time score was thus : Oroua 6, Manawatu B 0. In the second half S. Thompson got a try in the corner by individual plav and soon afterwards L. Thompson put in an excellent run from hal/way, heating most of the Manawatu team. He passed to Crowther, who scored under the posts. P. Shannon missed the conversion. Late in tile game. after Thompson and Carr had missed easy shots at goal from penalties. Cuff succeeded and the final score was : , Oroua 12, Manawatu 3.The referee was Mr 11. Meads.
