FAT LAMB CLASS.

PRAISE FROM JUDGE. Fat, lambs which were judged on the hoof at the Spring Show, last November, were judged as lambs and were on exhibition to-day. The class was for a pen of three, any cross breed, wethers or ewes or wethers and ewes, each lamb not to exceed 701 b live weight. The following were the results of the judging on the hooks, the results of the judging on the hoof being shown in brackets: — J. W. Perry (Sanson) ...• 1 (1) A. MacDonald (Ashhurst) ... 2 (2) R. D. McKelvic (Rongotca) 3 (—) 1 Jj. B.‘Wall (Kairaiiga) ' r- 4 (4) Harper Bros. (Hastings) 5 Only four awards were made at the first judging. The pons which won placings today for R. D. McKelvic and Harper Bros, wero not placed on that occasion, and A. MacDonald secured the third prize then with a pen which was unplaced to-day. Comments made to-day by Mr Drysdalc, the chief Government grader, who judged the carcases, were as follow: — First prize pen.—'Three outstanding lambs, well finished, good legs, loins and shoulders. Of even weights, well covered with fat, full of meat and having a good bloom. Three ideal lambs for the London market. Second prize pen.—Three ' very good lambs,' evenly covered, with well filled legs and shoulders. One lamb a trifle weak in the loin. Good bloom, and generally good trade lambs. ’Third prize.—Three very nice lambs, well filled legs, loins and shoulders, but, slightly lacking in bloom. One rather wasteful over the tail. Otherwise good trade lambs. Fourth, prize.—Very fair lambs, but not so well finished. Two lambs a trifle weak, but generally good marketable lambs. Fifth prize.—Nice lambs. One rrthcr wasteful on the tail-head, one split, Quite a good exhibit. The remaining lots are good trade lambs generally, with the exception of one or two pens. The exhibit as a whole is very gratifying, and tlje general quality of the lambs a little ahead of that of last seaton.
