MARTON. June 12. Marton donations to the Sick', Wounded and Distress Fund have reached £1993 5s 3d. As the result of a competition played at the Hawkestone . Golf Club, £1 2s was handed to the fund. The competition resulted in a draw between P. Gronn and G. Rusooe; both players decided to donate the trophy for competition among the women members. At' a meeting of the Marton DistrictHigh School committee, Mr j. F. R. Wallace presided. Permission to use the school hall for patriotic purposes was granted the Marton Patriotic Committee. The Wanganui Education board notified that Mr W. J. Jefferies, Graliity, West-Coast, had been appointed to the position of secondary assistant master at the school, Mr Jefferies replaces Mr P. H. Hall, who . retires next month. The committee decided to nominate Mr Wallace as the member for the west ward on the Education Board. The headmaster reported that the attendance in the primary department, while showing a slight improvement was still below what should be considered satisfactory. Steps were being taken to secure an improvement.
