(From Our Own Correspondent.) ■ STANWAY, June 12. The Stanway . Women’s Institute hold its monthly meeting in tho hall, Aliss M: V. Clcre presiding. A welcome was extended to Mrs W. G. Short (president" of the Oroua Federation), and a special welcome to all grandmothers of the institute, who were the guests of honour. The members of tho drama circle presented each 'grandmother with a pretty floral shoulder spray. Very comfortable easy chairs were arranged round the president’s table, eleven in all being occupied. Notice was given that ten parcels would be sent overseas for tho soldiers from the institute at tho end of June. Mcsdamcs Short, Lcet and Colo kindly offered to purchase and pack these. Notice was also given of the patriotic shop to bo conducted in Fcilding, and donations of fruit, vegetables, meat and, in fact, all goods would be appreciated. A report on the euchre and dance hold recently was given by the treasurer (Mi's W. Harvey). A presentation was made to Mrs F. Cowdrey who is shortly leaving tho district. Miss Clere mentioned that Mrs Cowdrey had been an institute member for a number of years and would be greatly missed in tho drama circle. A further talk in tho golden thread series, of “A Place of 'lnterest,” was given by Mrs A. Green, who spoke on her trip to Wellington, Christchurch; and Dunedin. The speaker made special mention of the many wide rivers in the South Island and also of the wonderful gardens in Dunedin. The cable cars were also a source of interest to the visitors. A vote of thanks for the speaker was carried. The remainder of the afternoon was devoted to a social with items and competitions. A mime, ‘‘ln a Public Library,” was presented by Mcsdamcs Marshall, Harvey, Hamilton, and Misses R. Marshall, N. and Z. Jefferies, G. Marshall, J. Rosser and J. Groves. A competition, a piece -of knitting done with two wooden matches, was won by Mrs H. Jones. The mystery parcel was won by Mrs S. Jones. Two songs were rendered by Miss Grace Marshall. A song sketch was presented by Miss Clcre, Mcsdamcs Marshall. Harvey, Hamilton, and Misses J.-Rosser, N. Jefferies, Z. Jefferies, R. Marshall, J. Groves and G. Marshall. The competitions were: Knitted bed socks, Mrs Lect 1. Mrs A. Green and Mrs V. B. Short equal 2: annlo turnover. Mrs A. Green 1, Mrs Cockburn 2; bloom, Mrs Rosser 1, Mrs Harvey 2. _ The hostesses were Mcsdamcs Cole, Callingbam. Whitehead and Miss D. Callingbam. The competitions for the July meeting will be: Cooking, three ginger nuts; best bloom in the garden: something new from romc- • thing old tp fit a child up to five years and to be given later for the refugees. Members were also asked to bring any other clothing suitable for forwarding to refugees in England. The hostesses for July will be Mcsdamcs E. Christian, J. Macfarlane, A. Groves and Miss J. Groves'; . , . Mrs F. Cowdrev is spending a short tiolirjay in Inglewood. Mr J. Humphrey, of Gordonton, Waikato, is the guest of Mr and Mrs M. Lcet. Mr R. Jones is the guest of Mrs A. Groves, and Mr \\. Groves, of Karori. is visiting his parents, Mr and Mrs L. Wilson are on holiday in tho Auckland and Hamilton districts. Mrs . M. Winder is the guest of her mother at Marton. Thp district nurse visited the Stanway school to-day. At a euchre tournament conducted, by tho Women’s Institute the winnoi's-'weie Mrs J. Macfarlane ,and Mr L. - Cpckburii. The consolation prizes were won 'by- Mrs Pago and Mr Ron Humphrey. Mrs; Macfa riaric kindly handed back her, prize to be u.-jed at sonic future function;
