PERSONAL. PAHIATUA. April 23. A number of relatives gathered at the residence of Mr .). B. Tait. of Ballance. on Saturday evening to celebrate his 80th birthday. Mr Tait was one of the first settlers in Ballance, having lived there for 54 years. The large birthday cake with its 80 candles was a pleasing sight. '.I he gitesls included Mr Tait's sister, Sirs J. A. Sinclair, of Ballance. who is 85 years old, and his son Sir F. B. Tait, and Sirs Tait. c.f Wellington. Sirs P. .Dransficld has returned home to Pahiatua from Auckland. SCHOOL PICNIC. The Ballance School picnic was held on Saturday at the school. At the conclusion of the events, Sir Polglasc (chairman of (lie School Committee) 1 presented the prizes, every child receiving a book.
