It was reported from St. Petersburg that a diamond ornament valued at £2OOO had been stolen from the famous Ikon of the Virgin, as well as £BOOO worth of other gems from the Uspeuski Cathedral at the Kremlin, Moscow. The condition of Mark Twain, the well-known American author, was causing concern as he was more seriously ill. A later message from New York stated that he had become unconscious. For tlie quarter which ended on March 31, the revenue at the Post and Telegraph Office in Wellington totalled £224,585 compared with £225,763 for the corresponding period in 1909. L. Davis had established a new world’s record for the 440 yards hurdle race at Melbourne. He had covered the distance in 57 2-ssec, the previous record being 58£scc.
