POWER SUPPLY IN WINTER.
CITY'S STAND-BY PLANT. Arising from a suggestion from the Manawatu-Oroua Power Board, the city electrical engineer (Air J. W. Muir) reported to a meeting of the City Council, last evening, on a proposal that the city’s generating plant be run during peak load periods in the winter months to assist in supplying the needs of the community. Air Aluir stated that he had interviewed the engineering authorities of the Power Board and the Public Works Department, and added:—“Our load will be greater than it was last year, and there is nothing in the council’s agreement with the board to provide for the plant being used in such a circumstance. 1 am of the opinion that there is little chance of the Public Works Department agreeing to the Power Board engineer’s proposal that our poYver plant be used to take the peak loads. “Clause 7 of the Power Board’s agreement ivith the council reads: ‘The board shall provide and maintain the necessary lines to the point of supply to deliver electrical energy at a voltage of not less than 10,000 volts, or not more than 11,500 volts.’ “After discussing the matter vvitli the board’s engineer, it is my opinion that the matter of voltage regulation on the heavy loads this winter will be overcome without causing inconvenience to our consumers.”
