COLLEGE STREET SCHOOL.

ASSEMBLY HALL PROJECT. The biennial report of the College Street School Committee says that the revenue for the two years under review amounted to £llO3 12a sd, against £BSB os 5d for 1936-38. The expenditure was £1132 2s lid, compared with £6S9 Os Id during the previous two years. The credit balance at March 31, 1938, was £342 16s, and the credit at February 29, 1940, was £323 5s 6d. In this 'amount was embodied £269 Is 2d in the assembly hall fund. The gross profit from the children's ball in the previous two years was £lsl 8s lid, and the net profit £S4 4s lOd, and the gross profit for fhc last two years was £lB7 4s lOd and the net' profit £94 17s lOd. The total amount to the credit of the assembly hall fund was £432 11s lOd. As it was not possible to obtain a subsidy, and because of the high cost of building materials, etc., it wa6 not possible to proceed with the erection of an assembly ball in the meantime. At the end of 1939 Mr L. J. Plank, headmaster, retired from the teaching service. During his term at the school lie proved himself a very efficient and popular headmaster, the report adds. Mr Tunnicliffe, of Napier ; took up his duties as headmaster during the new year. He has now accepted the position of headmaster of the Foxton District High School. The report expresses to the ladies’ committee appreciation for its help and co-operation each year saying that the committee’s efforts on behalf of the children and school generally could not be spoken of too highly. The committee also expresses thanks to the staff for the excellent results obtained at the school, and for their loyal co-.’Jli' operation and help in raising funds for school purposes.
