TRACK IN PERFECT ORDER FINE BUT COLD WEATHER. Tlie Feiklitig Jockey Club’s Easter meeting opened in fine but cold weather, there being a cold breeae. The sun came through at times and rain held off. The track was in perfect order and the rain experienced earlier in the week had the effect of taking the sting out- of it while leaving the surface firm. There was a. large attendance of patrons and full use ol the additional facilities provided by the club was made, The ramp beside the main stand was in good order and its initial use indicated that the improvement is one which is appreciated. The garden plots along the main drive looked a picture of beauty, with the colourful display of petunias, bonfire salvias, zinnias, roses and phlox making an attractive and refreshing scene amidst the picturesque and natural native hush setting. FILBERT’S lI IG II WEIGIIT. SUCCESSFUL LATE RUN. War Lap and Ilaupongi were the early leaders in the Ivawa Kawa Higliweight Handicap, with Hunting Lore and Great Quox following. Thrasos was last in the early stages. This order was maintained round the back, when Filbert ran into third place, the order being War Lap, Itauporigi, Filbert. and Hunting Lore. With two furlongs to go Hunting Lore went up on the inside of Filbert, to lake the lead from him. Hunting Lore led .into the straight, but could not last over the final stages and Filbert came along to win, with Thrnfos in a fast finishing run cutting Hunting Lore out. of second money. Ilaupongi was next. TAIIIO BEST MAIDEN. I.ED FROM THE START. W. .T. Broughton, the leading jockey, marked his return to riding after his recent absence from the saddle by riding the winder. Taiho. in the Maiden Stakes. Taiho led from the start and with Great Fair opened up a gap on the field, with Goldburn loading the others. Great Fair could not go wit h Taiho in the straight and the latter went on to win comfortably. Goldburn came up under pressure to heat Great Fair narrowly for second money, with Augment fourth and then Pitmark, Te Oriko and Resingold. RACING IN DETAIL.
