DOMINION’S WAR EFFORT. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, March 20. A total of £1,305,267 was by noon contributed in free loans and contributions. To-day’s list includes £IO,OOO from Dominion Dlotors for the duration of the war and six months; £IO,OOO from DlcKenzics' DepartmentStores, Ltd , Wellington, for the duration and 12 months; £2500 from John Chambers and Son, Auckland, for the duration: £2OOO from the Canterbury Steamship Company, for the duration and six months; and £2OOO from the board of directors of G. H. Scales, Wellington, for the duration and 12 months. Seven contributions of £IOOO for the duration and six or twelve months are from Abbott, Armstrong and Howie, Auckland; Hallenstein Bros., Dunedin ; Andreae and Company, Christchurch ; J. B. Tavler. Dlanutahi ; 1. R. and E. H. Picot, Wellington; Allen, Son, and McClure, Dunedin, and Radford and Company, Wellington. A cheque for £20.000. representing a cash gift toward tlie War Expenses l-’und from Die New Zealand Insurance Company, Auckland, was received later bv the Minister of Finance. This generous action, lie said, was much appreciated. and the Government sincerely thanked the company for its splendid
gift. • Loans for the duration include £2OO from Dir J. C. McEwcn (Ashhurst), and £IOO from Dir A. G. Collins (Awahuri) ; also £SO from an anonymous donor of Palmerston North for the duration and twelve months. At tbe annual meeting of Dio Otago Rugby Union it was decided lo lend the Government £SOO interest free fov the duration and six months after. The donations include £2O from Mr F. S. Goldinglinin (Palmerston North).
