STATE OF ROADS.
TROUBLE IN TARANAKI. DYith tlie exception of the main routes to Auckland through Taranaki, which are blocked, all the main highways arc reported by the Manawatu Automobile Association to be open. Further rain has been experienced in the Awakino district and several slips are reported to have fallen on the Te Ivuiti New Plymouth length, while other slips arc probable. The Stratford Taumarunui highway' (via Tangarakau) is still closed, and no traffic for Auckland can thus pass through the northern Taranaki area. The Parapara Road (WanganuiRaetilii) is open, but the alternative to this (Wanganui River Road, via l’ipiriki) is still closed. Traffic is being directed as tar as possible over the Dlain Trunk route, and a length of highway near Hiliitalii (north of Taihape), which was recently in poor order, has now been brought hack lo standard condition. On the Desert Road there is a length of six miles between Public DYorks Department camps which is very rough, and speeds of only up to ten miles an hour can be employed over certain parts of it. Dtotcists are told that they use this roa* at their own risk.
