OROUA DOWNS INSTITUTE.
The monthly meeting of the Oroua Downs Women’s Institute was held on Tuesday afternoon, when Mis Smith (president) extended a welcome to members and visitors. Correspondence was received from the federation regarding parcels for the. soldiers. Several members offered to make cakes for the parcels. The Te Kawau group meeting will be held at Oroua Downs in March, the competitions to be: Home-made soap (two months old), knitted socks on No. 12 needles, and dahlias (6 varieties). Nominations were received for the new committee. Winners of the competitions were: Home-made soap, Mis Williams 1, Mrs W. Shailer 2; three vegetables, Mrs Ray Shailer 1, Mrs Fra.hcis 2; junior, date scones, Miss K. Dench 1. Miss A. Christensen 2. An interesting travel talk was given by Mrs Marchant, who received a vote of thanks. Next month’s 'competitions will be: Senior, seed cake; junior, waggon throw-over; floral, six dahlias. The hostesses are Mesdames. Stratford, Williams, C. Conlan and Reeder.
This is the year for polka dots, n.ml a blue and white dotted frock is effectively pleated at the liiplinc to look like a snowstorm.
