OBITUARY.

MR H. POUTAMA. The death lias occurred at his residence at Kakariki. Halcombe, of Mr Hika Poutania. Born about SO years ago in the Waikato district, Mr Poutama was paramount chief of the Maniapoto tribe .He claimed to he tli© head of the whole Waikato Maoris by direct descent from Tawliiao, and was a grand-uncle of King Koroki. Learned in Maori tradition and lore, Mr Poutama had a very wide knowledge of the arts and crafts of the Maori. Loved, honoured and respected by his own people, he will bo greatly missed. Among his pakelia acquaintances, Mr Poutama was held in the highest respect, having lived /it Kakariki for over 30 years, and was known for miles around. Mr Poutama was twice married. His widow, four sous and one daughter survive him.
