SALE TO BRITAIN. AUSTRALIAN ARRA3V.EMENTS. Prices offered by the British Government for the purchase of - all the surplus butter and cheese manufactured in the Commonwealth in the period ending June 30 next have been accepted by the Australian Dairy Produce Board. The decision, which is subject to adjustments of certain minor conditions of sale, which are expected to be readily effected, was made by the board when it conferred with Government representatives in Canberra on Tuesday. When the contract is completed details of prices and conditions will be announced. The British Government’s offer for cheese, the board states, relates to white and waxed cheese. The prices offered were considered by the conference to be particularly satisfactory in tho prevailing conditions. At the request of the Commonwealth Governmentt the board nominated a committee of management, which will set up State committees to carry out the provisions of the contract. . Provision has been made to retain the equalisation system, which has operated successfully for some years in Australia. The board has undertaken to assist tho Government by giving the greatest possible co-operation in all steps deemed necessary to maintain production in Australia and to ensure supplies to the United Kingdom. Tho board reported last week that the shipment of Australian butter in the Dunedin Star bad been practically cleared on the basis of 119 s for choicest- and 118 s a cwt. for first grade. The board has raised prices for butter in Australia for export by 3s a cwt. Minimum prices—c.i.f. and e. terms —Salted, choicest 117* a cwt, first grade 115 s; unsalted, choicest, 119 s, first grade His.
