LONGBURN.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) LONGBURN, July 29.

Mrs R. D. Knight is visiting Auckland. Mrs C. Nicol had Mr and Mrs F. Liley, of Hastings, staying with her for tho races. Mr and Mrs Steele, late of Otorohango, liavo taken up their residence in Longburn. Mr and Mrs W. D. Campbell have boen visiting Hamilton and were staying with Mrs Campbell’s relatives at Claudolands. Mr Campbell has returned home; Mrs Campbell is the guest of Mr and Mrs Crow, recently residents of Longburn and now farming at Kiwitahi, Rotorua line. Tho sympathy of their friends has been expressed to Mrs Meehan in the serious illness of Mr Meehan, who is an inmate of tiie Palmerston North Hospital. Mr and Mrs Warbcrg are residing in Longburn. Mr Warberg is in charge of the ramp construction work On Thursday evening a euchre party was held in the school in aid of the radio fund. There was a very good attendance, in spito of a very cold night. The ladies’ prize was won hv Mrs A. Sanson and the men’s by Mr Mabey; the consolation prizes wont to Mrs Shortland and Mr W. Francis. A dance was held recently in tho Longburn Hall by the local branch of tho Labour Party. There was a large number present and an enjoyable time was spent by all. Tho residents were greatly surprised on rising on Thursday morning to find the district mantled in snow. In places it was several inches thick. Old residents state that sn'ow is a very rare occurrence in this district. Tho snow-covered hills rnado a beautiful picture.
