(From Our Own Correspondent.) UTUWAI, July 29. Despite the inclement weather, there was a very good attendance at the euchre and dance' evening organised by the Women s Institute. A glowing log fire presented a cheery appearance. Prizes for the euchre were won by Mrs Flavell, by cut from Miss 0. Hemming* and Air .7. O’llagan. Jho licor was cleared for dancing to music supplied by Mrs Buckman, Mrs A. Coup and Mr C. Scarlc. Mr IT. Viles acting as M C A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss L. Enright and Mr T. Hemi. Among those present were: Mesdames Enright, Buckman, Flavell. C. Searle, .7. Wingate, MeKwen, Smith, Ilemi, Ifinchbcrg, Che.vne, wearing black satin and seal-let; A Roberts, navy floral;. A. Coup, ivory ehancilly lace, white fur coat; Clark, brown niarocnin; J. Cawood, saxe blue inarncain ;• .Misses .7. Roberts, jacc green talTeia; .7. Enright, powder blue taffeta; 0. Hemmings, black silk velvet; A. Wingate, scarlet.; V. Enright, blue floral georgette; E. Chnyno, lemon tafTeta; .7. McKenzie, floral pique; 1,. Enright, maroon inarocain; Smith, black silk velvet ; M. Foote, green pann velvet; I. Callinghan, black and white check. The fortnightly “500’’ evening was well attended and prizes were won by Miss Laurie Cheyne and Mr J. Enright. There was only a fair attendance at the July meeting of the Women’s Institute, which was held later than usual owing to had road conditions. Miss .7. Roberts presided and apologies for absence were received from Mrs W. Roberts, All's C. Searle and Mrs J. O’Hagan. A motion of sympathy was passed with the family of the late Mr Hemmings. Notice of the Qroua Group meeting to he held in Apiti next week was received. The roll-call, “The season I like best, and why,” was well responded to. Competitions, judged by Mrs Enright and Mrs Wingate, resulted: —Nightdress, Mrs A. Billet 1, Miss M. Cheyne 2, Mrs A. Roberts 3. Best bloom, Mrs Cheyne 1. Mrs C. F. Viles 2, Mrs McEwen 3. Miss •T. Davies won the tray, and the travelling competition was won by Mrs Adlington. Mrs A. Coup gave an instructive talk oil nursing, explaining the contents and uses of a first-aid box, bod-making for sick patients, and other items. The programme for August includes a golden thread talk. Competitions: Baby’s knitted vest and best bloom. Social half-hour. Upper Firipiri; ' Mrs E. Buckman, Miss -T. Davies and Miss j Cheyne will act as hostessess.
