PAHIATUA.

RACING CLUB'S MEETING. A favourable financial position was disclosed bv tlie secretary of the I'aluatua Racing Club (Mr J. G. Swainson), in the annual report anil balancesheet presented at the meeting. After paying £SOO off the mortgage, doing £lO l(3s worth of improvements, and with a £lB5 increase in the stakes, the club had still £IOOS 15s 3d in hand, an increase of £B2B on the previous year. Ju addition, there was a further charge of £3l 19s 9d for social security, the secretary concluded. The president (Mr D. Kelly) presided, and there was an attendance of about twenty. Mr Kelly thanked the stewards for the help they had given. No stewards could have given so much help. He thanked Mr K. J. Smith for ably taking the chair at the last annual meeting and expressed regret that he had not earned on for the whole of the year. Mr Kelly concluded with best wishes lor a good year, and hoped that the incoming stewards would do as well as the previous committee. The following report was presented by the stewards:—"The race meeting held on Friday and Saturday, January 27 and 28 last was the most successful the club has experienced ior some years, and, though the stakes were further increased, the meeting showed a satisfactory profit. Ihe attendance of the public was also greatly in excess of previous years. llie stewards applied for Friday and Saturday, January 26 and 27, HMO, as the dates for the next race meeting, and these have been approved by the Racing Conference. The stewards wish to express their thanks to Mr YV N. Kcrnick, Pahiatua, and to Jh and Mrs D. Lvneh, of Kohmui, the donors of the silver tea service and handsome silver cup, respectively, ioi their generous donations for tlic meeting " . ~ -., In proposing the re-election of Mi Kelly as president, Mr It. J- bnll ™ naid'a warm tribute to the interest he had taken in the club. In seconding Mr Kellv's nomination, Mr 1- .).<-- Lloyd he'artilv endorsed these remarks. Mr Kellv was re-elected unanimously. Sir Kellv, in thanking the meeting, praised the work of the secretary (Mi Swainson) and moved a hearty vote ot thanks to him for his efforts this was carried bv acclamation. On the motion of Mr I. 'Taylor. Mr S. V. Rodney was elected a life member. ; The following officers were also elected:_ Vice-presidents, Messrs H. .). Smith. S. V. Rodney, and S. 1, 1 uinev ; stewards, Messrs C. Paterson ; hon treasurer, Mr S. T. 1 inney: clerk of course. Mr B. Draper; clerk of scale? Mr P". J. C Lloyd; timekeeper, Mr AV. H. Gaisford. It was decided to send a letter ot appreciation to Mr G. D. H. Smith in recognition of his past services as steward. Mr Taylor reported that a loss ot £3 had been sustained on the ball.
