Despite the wintry conditions there was a good attendance at the weekly meeting of tho Palmerston North Chess Club. The second section of the handicap tourney was concluded with tho evening’s play, the results of which will he announced next club night. The members will also be regraded according to their score results. Additions to tallies of the last club night are as follow: Collins defeated Griggs, Parkins defeated L. Christensen, Bennett defeated Perkins. Aliss P. Christensen drew with Griggs. Championship nI ay this year has been creative of keen interest as tho 18-round tourney is being contested with excellent results, especially among the younger club members. With about eight rounds to play there are at the moment three members running close for first place; thus tho last rounds will he a great battle for a lead in points as any one player may have the honour of turning the tables. Games played arc as follow : Yorke defeated Perkins ; Dr. Boiler v. 11. Christensen, unfinished; Harper v. R. Christensen, unfinished. The lust-mentioned game is still after three evenings of play in a position that may cause a draw.
