AIR FORCE RECRUITS

GRATIFYING RESPONSE. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, July 28. The response to applications called recently for candidates lor appointment to short-service commissions in the Royal Air Force, and also for appointment to commissions in the Royal New Zealand Air Force Reserve (pilots’ section) had been very gratifying, said the Alinister of Defence (lion, h. Jones), to-day. Applications were invited early in July for a number of vacancies, and within the period which ended July 21 no fewer than 600 inquiries were received at the Air Department from .applicants wishing to obtain commissions in either the Royal Air Force or tlie Royal New Zealand Air Force Reserve. The response received was very gratifying indeed, and of the 600 New Zealanders, who had made preliminary inquiries 250 had already completed their applications. Further applications were expected to he received within tlie next few days.

“The Air Department already has a large waiting list of candidates who were interviewed in Alarcli, and it is expected that the-majority of these will lie required to start their i lying training in October, when more than 50 will be reporting to aero dubs for their ab initio training.” said the Alinister. “A further 50 candidates are required for February, and a similar number will be required in Alarcli. Thereafter candidates will report approximately every three months.”
