REGENT THEATRE. “CONFESSIONS OF A NAZI SPY.” “Confessions of a Nazi Spy,” now showing at the Regent Then tie. stars Edward G. Robinson and a. brilliant supporting cast, including Paul J.ukas, Francis Lcdcrcr, l.ya Lys—famous European film beauty making her American debul —and many others. Although the particular characters and events arc fictional, tile espionage methods revealed in the film are based on the facts brought out in the recent trials in New York, Los Angeles mid the Panama Canal Zone. Leon G. Tiutcii, former F. 8.1. agent, wiio acted as technical advisor on the Warner Bros, photoplay, smashed one of the Nazi spy rings, and his intimate knowledge of the manner in which the spies operate has given reality and authenticity to die pioductfon. “Confessions of a Nazi Spy” is a sensations I picture in the true sense of the word, been it is a vivid depiction of live menacing under-cover activities fostered in America by tbe most: dangerous of ail the democratic instil lit ions—the Nazi regime in Germany. Edward G. Robinson portrays the G-miin who breaks the spy ring and brings four of Hie members to trial and conviction. Paul Lukas plays Hue doctor who heads the spy ring, iiiui Lcdcrcr portrays a lamglyig Nazi informer. l.ya Lys, whose exquisite blonde beauty and dramatic ability make her one of (lie top European stars, makes her American film debit? in “Confessions of a Nazi Spy.” KOSY THEATRt. “RENFREW OF THE ROYAL MOUNTED.” No more picturesque organisation exists to-day than the Canadian Royal Mounted Police, and there is no more popular fiction character than “Renfrew of the Royal Mounted,” - who litas been idolised by millions of youngsters through his radio, bonk and cartoon adventures. Grand National is now making a series of notable act ion lifiiis. based on the adventures of l.auri York Erskine’s noted liction character, of which the lirst, ‘Renfrew of the Royal Mounted,” is now showing at, the Rosy Then tic, with James Newill, well known radio singing star, who made his screen debut in “Something to Sing About” with James Cagney, in the title role. Newill, who became a star in his own right in this scries, demonstrates that he is a superb dramatic actor, as well as a splendid singer, having the dash and gallant bearing that makes him ideal for the part. A notorious hand of outlaws a.nd counterfeiters is hiding somewhere in the heart of Hie Canadian Wildcrliesu, after killing a member of the Royal Mounted, who was pursuing them. ''Renfrew is assigned the task of tracking down the criminals and in doing so passes through a series of desperate and breathtaking adventures. How lie eventually outwits and captures Hie hand makes an enthralling stoiy. A well-balanced supporting cast includes Carol Hughes, William Kuylc, Donald Reed, ’1 hunriercloud. David Barclay, William Austin and “Lightning,” the famous movie dog, also has an important part. “CODE OF THE STREETS.” A four time winner on the revolving wheel of theatrical fortune Harry Carey enacts one of his finest roles as the featured character star of Universal’s “Code of the Streets,” now showing at the Kosy Theatre.
