MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
Appearing; on remand from 'Wellington. .too Tainui. aged 3S, a native of the Hawaiian Islands, appeared before Mr H. P. Lowry, S.M., in the Palmerston North Magistrate’s Court, yesterday, charged with the theft, on March 20. at Inglewood, of a banjo valued at £3. De-tective-Sergeant A. B. Meiklejolin stated that accused had taken a banjo from the house of a Native at Shannon, to polish it, hut it had not been returned. Subsequently it was recovered. Tainui claimed ho had left lus own banjo at Shannon, selling the one he had taken. There was a long list of previous convictions, and accused had just left prison. Accused was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within twelve months, an order being made for the return of the goods.
