FEILDING BRANCH. REVIEW OF THE YEAR, The report of the Feilding branch of tho PJunkct Society for the year ended 51arch 31, 1939, states, inter alia:—This report records the operations of another successful year and | the celebration of a great event in the history of the branch—the official opening of our new rooms by Her Excellency Viscountess Galway. Her Excellency, by accepting the invitation of our branch and by her gracious presence at' the ceremony and afterwards at our anniversary tea, conferred greathonour on the work of the late Sir Truby King, tho Feilding Plunket Society, and the citizens of our town and country. Her visit gave great pleasure and members deeply appreciated the two-fold honour that Viscountess Galway made the occasion her official visit to Feilding. 4 The rooms have been furnished, the service maintained and the general account shows an improved position. Several functions have been hold and the returns show a decided increase. One month was devoted to a membership campaign and our thanks are due to slrs. T. Donaldson and sfiss slcElroy for our increased membership. SVo appreciate being given the privilege of again catering at Jlessrs. Bortliwick and Son’s field day and also at the New Zealand polo tournament held in Feilding. 5Ve are very grateful to Mr. and sfrs. James Knight for lending their beautiful home for a bridge evening in aid of our funds. The Mothers’ Club is flourishing and continues to be helpful to the committee. Talks ou child psychology have been given at meetings and a study group, dealing with the toddlers, has been formed under the leadership of slrs. H. D. C. Somerset of the Community Centre, Feilding. The committee recognises this as a valuable extension of our work. Our sub-branches have been visited during the year, and it is pleasing to record their enthusiastic co-operation and cordial relations with the parent branch. Owing to her departure from Eoikling, slrs,P. G. Stevens, one of the most enthusiastic and energetic members of the committee, tendered her resignation which was accepted with regret. slrs A. Sugden, our patroness, left recently to reside in Napier and the branch is the poorer for her going. As president, 51rs Sugden. for over ton years gavo wholehearted service to the society and renewed her interest as our patroness. AVe plnco on record our appreciation of the service of both ladies. A presentation, carrying a wealth of good wishes, was made to Nurse Thomson, who loft at short notico in December to take up a nursing appointment overseas. Temporary arrangements were made to carry on the work and our thanks are due to the AA'anganui Karitane Hospital for a visit from Sister Brown, to sliss Tui slayo, nurse in charge of rooms in town, to slrs E. A. Payton (Apiti) and slrs • Deighton (Sanson) tor attention to the subbranches. shss V. O’Brien was appointed early in the New sTear5 T ear and we trust her sojourn in our district will be pleasant. Her report discloses: Headquarters: Visits to rooms, adults, 3130, babies 2908, children 617, total 6655. Ahsits to homes, 709, new babies 145. Out-stations: Sanson, visits to rooms, adults 64, babies 54,’children 30, visits to homes, 88, total 236; new babies, 11. Kimbolton : A 7 isits to rooms, adults 27, babies 20, children 7, visits to homes 92, totai 146; new babies 7. Apiti: Visits to rooms, adults 118, babies 113, children 21. visits to homes 12. total 264; new babies 13. The purchase of a car for tlie use of our nurse in the country districts, lias become urgent and tlie sub-branches are co-operating with the parent branch to raise money for that purpose. One of the worst “death traps” in India, the coast road between Bombay and Worli, which was built many yeare ago. is being transformed into a motorists’ paradise. Tt is being widened, to 60ft. with two 20ft vide footpaths on either side.
