THE EXPANSION ARGUMENT. BUCHAREST, June 0. “Rumania has flatly refuted Germany’s Lebensraum (living space) excuses for expansion eastwards,” declared Dr. Gafencu in the Chamber of Deputies. “Space within the Rumanian border is reserved only for the needs of the Rumanian nation, which is determined to defend its independence, even with arms,” Dr. Gafencu proceeded. “At the first touch of our territory wc will fight. Rumania will not accept, new obligations regarding minorities except those she imposes within her own borders.” /
