BREEDERS’ ASSOCIATION. The report to bo presented at the annual meeting of the New Zealand trie.sian Association states .that the regular and steady advancement made, particularly in recent years, in the breeding of It riesians for improved type and increased production was move than maintained during the past year. The thanks of the association are extended to those breeders who have made considerable sacrifices in time and money in officially testing and in exhibiting at A. and P.* Shows representatives of their pedigree studs. Messrs O. A. Cadwa Under, 11. E. Johnson, D. J. MeGowan and E. M. North retire from the council thirt year, but are eligible tor reelection. There are now seven honorary life members, three life members, two overseas members, 364 members, 14 junior members, 159 associated members, and six institutional member*, a total of 555 belonging to the association. Certificate of Record Testing*: During 1938 the firstclass certificates issued to Eric Jans totalled 52 and consisted of six 305-day test, certificates and 46 yearly test certificates. The average for the 305 day certificates was 12,386.31 b milk and 443.92 fat, while the 46 yearly certificates averaged 15,177.6 lb milk and 563.951 b fat, Seventeen sec-ond-class certificates were also issued for records completed during 1938 ; these certificates including three 305-dav test certificates. The 14 yearling test certificates averaged 15.685.71 b milk and 613.831 b fat. Tho total number of first-class certificates (yearly test) isued to Eriesians by the Dairy Division since the inception of 0.0. R, testing is now 2348, tho average for these certificates being 14,126.11 b milk and 501.611 b fat. This average is easily the best for all dairy breeds in Now Zealand. Government official herd test: During tho 1937-8 season 362 pedigree Friesian* were tested under Government Official Herd Tost with an average production of 9050.21 b milk and 323.861 b fat in 276 days—a most satisfactory return under ordinary herd conditions. New Zealand records: Moneviile Slyvia Bosch Merccna, calving at 7 years 91 days of ago produced 26.369.11 b milk, 1000.431 b fat in 365 days. This i* the eighth record exceeding 10001 b fat made by pedigree Eriesians in New Zealand. During 1938 nine cows produced over 2000 gallons of milk, making a total to that date of 248 for the Friesian breed. The total number of times Friesinns have produced over 1001 b fat in a month was raised lo 113 l\v the addition of four such record* during the rear. The completion of a (AO.R. test of 807.771 b fat by Totara K.P. Buttercup makes tho eleventh time in which records exceeding 8001 b fat have been made by both dam and daughter in the Friesian breed in New Zealand.
