STRIKE BEGINS
JEWS IN JERUSALEM. WHITE PAPER BURNED. GOVERNMENT ATTACKED. (United Press Association—By Electr'c '] elograph. —Copy right.) Received May 22, 9.45 a.m. LOIS'DON, May 21. The Jerusalem correspondent of the British United Press says that the Jewish strike has begun. All shops are closed. An orderly procession ended with the burning of the White Paper followed by speeches attacking the British Government. An earlier message stated that the Association of Jewish Landlords and Property Owners has resolved oil a complete tax strike until the repeal of the White Paper proposals, which the former Arab Higher Committee has also rejected as offering nothing new. At Tel A viv troops rounded up 300 illegal Jewish immigrants who were secretly landed on the coast. 'J hey were interned. The authorities stated today that further illegal migrants vyill he deducted irom the immigration (piota. General R. H. Haining, Commander of the British Forces in Palestine, summoned the Zionist loaders and warned them that further d’sturbances would be met with the firmest measures. He praised the restraint of Jews ill the past, but said lie regarded the shooting of policemen as murder. The number of Jews injured in last Thursday’s disturbances total 92. Official Jewish organisations have received telegrams from throughout tlio world promising assistance.
