CLAY BIRD TOURNEY.

QUAIITERM AN’S SUCCESS. More difficult conditions were met by competitors in the West Coast tAorth Is.and) clay bird tournament when it was continued on Saturday under the auspices ot the Palmerston North Gun Club. A strong wind inferred with accuracy. Mr W. Woolven (Hamilton), North Island official referee, at the conclusion of the tournament, thanked - the Palmerston North Club for its good offices, on behalf of the visiting shooters, who. lie said, had been impressed by the efficient running of the tournament. Mr M. Kearins, the club president, responded. The principal event of the meeting, the North Island (AVest Coast) championship, a 21-bird match off IS yards, attracted 17 entries. H. A. Quarterman (AYar.ganui) and IT. K. Smith (Masterton) were equal with 20 breaks at the end the round. In the shootoff Quartermaii got six birds, Smith dropping his last cone. A sweepstake was held in conjunction with the championship, T. A. Wriglev (Dnnnevirko) tying with Smith and Quartermaii. In the shootoff AVrigley was the winner, getting seven birds to Quarteman’s six and Smith’s five. A £2o handicap shoot (18 birds) followed with 20 starters. The stake was. divided between L. Maher (Putaruru) and E. C. Thomason (King Country) who each secured the possible. Second and third prizes were divided between F. Farmer (Palmerston North). D. Missen (Taihapei, ,T. B. Thomason (Taihape) and J. Dunlop (Wanganui). A 9-bird sweepstake was divided between H. Tv. Smith (Masterton), E. T. Thomnsen (King Country) and N. Hansen (Palmerston North), who each secured nine birds.

A second 9-bird sweepstake was divided between D. Missen (Taihape) and L. Maber (Putaruru). Gimcrnck No. 1 (7 birds) was won by F,. de Tonrret (Palmerston North) second place being secured by Mrs de Tonrret (Palmerston North). Gimcrnck No. 2 was won by N. Hansen (Palmerston North). The final event was a “first-nv'ss nut” which was won bv L. Maher (Putaruru) with 11 breaks.
