QUICKER DYEING. Improved methods of dyeing have put new life into the Jlntish woollen industry. \wiiie individual inventors win outstanding lame hy some world-shatter-ing discovery —tiie Arrays, the telephone, or the steam-engine —ouen inventions or improvements of great value are made without anyone outside the trade affected knowing very much about it. This lias happened ill the last three or lour years. J lie woollen industry lias benefited (and is at present m the transition state leading to great improvement j as a result of a new process ol dyeing. Alter 21KJ0 experiments. a new operation has ueen l.v.ud which docs not require new machinery, but oniy ail adaptation of existing plant. The idea, comes from toe British Uyestufls Corpoiution. Ever since the dyeing of woollen fabrics came into use the process lias required u temperature at hoihng point, and tms lias always proved harmful to the woollen fibre. Now, as a result of this new and greatly improved process, it is possible to dye taurics with water at a temperature ot only Jo(J degrees I*arenlieit. This is a great step lorward. But, curiously enough, there is more to it, for iiiSLead ot the fabrics being immersed for hours, as lias always been luecessary, it is now possible to dye them thoroughly in only 15 minutes. i lie secret ol the new method is that the liquid is pumped through the lrabie and a vibration set up in the fibres to enable them to breathe in the dye more quickly, so to speak. Woollen manufacture is being revolutionised.—(Ll
