MONEY RATES

increase advocated.

DIFFICULTY IN DUNEDIN

Per Press Association. DGNEDIN April 18.

The City Council s difficulty in raising money at the Government’s prescribed rate was emphasised last night by Cr. Taverner, who said the ratepayers had sanctioned Joans, but until the Government either sanctioned higher interest or made money directly available it would not be possible to proceed with the proposed works. He added that in this city there are some fairly large aggregations of capital not fully employed, especially in tlie hands of trustees societies which would come their way if the rate of interest were only a little higher.
