SCOPE OF DEPARTfcNT. grouping of SERIES. I With the coming into operain on 4pril 1 of the Social Security Act, considerable departmental reorfcnsation has become necessary throifiout the Dominion, and Palmerston ,r>rth features prominently in the chanfc. The Social Security Departmen, is absorbing the Pensions Departmt, the Employment Division of theaepartment of Labour and the 1 lenient Office. The district of which 11merston North will lie the headqu--ters extends from Southern Hawks Bay and down the Manawatu Line,? far as Waikanae, and includes I eit ing Mr D. C. Donovan has been aj pointed district registrar, and his dis trict chief clerk will he Mr L. W Cozens, at present district employment officer. There will be 24 of a staff in the local office, and district agents in Dannevirke, Eeilding and Levin will have, between them, a staff of 12. All monetary benefits, with the ex- ■ ception of matters relating to sickness | and unemployment, will be handled by | the principal office, but in cases of ij sickness and unemployment the district | agents will act so as to prevent any | delay and consequent hardship. \ “The object in amalgamating the .. sections mentioned is very obvious, ■ said Mr Donovan to a “Standard re- t porter to-day. The co-ordination of the services made it possible to deal with , every type of case coming within the f , provisions of the Act. \ Until the new building to house th« department’s local office is completed the various services will be. conducted in the present offices, but in a very short time it is hoped to have the divtsions housed in the one building, which is situated in Broadway and at sent houses the Pensions Department j branch.
