PERSONAL.
The Chief Justice (Sir Michael Myers) and Mr Justice Smith arc hoth suffering from colds and are confined to their homes in Wellington. Mr J. W. Rodden, assistant London manager of the Primary Products Marketing Department, and formerly of Palmerston North, was a week-end visitor to the city. Mr Itodden is representing the Marketing Department at the freight conference which opened in Wellington to-day. A British Official 'Wireless message states that Lord Sanderson who, though blind from birth, achieved high academic honours and was for nine years principal of Ruskin College, Oxford, died on Saturday at the age of 71 years. Ho was formerly a prominent member of the Labour I s a.rty and was created a peer in 1931. The death has occurred at Wanganui of Mr John Smalley Pole, formerly of Palmerston North, and Otaki, in his 86tli year. The late Mr Pole was a member of a family which was very well-known in the city in earlier years and his death, which occurred at the residence of his daughter, Mrs P. B. Anderson, will be regretted by older residents. Rev. J. C. W. Mutter, assistant to Rev. F. S. Ramson, vicar of St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Terraco End, has been appointed vicar ot Opunake and will take up his duties in a month’s time. Mr Mutter lias made numerous friends during his stay at Terrace End and has been a splendid leader of the young people, and all will wish him a successful ministry at Opunake. Rev. E. S. Ramson, vicar of St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Terraco End, who recently suffered a breakdown in health, is making excellent progress towards recovery, and will be returning to Palmerston North in the near future. At a meeting of the church vestry last evening lie was accorded the parish’s sympathy and the wish expressed for an early and complete restoration to health. Mr T. E. Davidson, who has boon attached to the State Forest Sendee at Palmerston North, has received notice of his transfer to Invercargill and leaves to take up his new position immediately after Easter. Mr Davidson’s departure will he regretted by several organisations with which he has been connected. For the past eight years he has been secretary of the Palmerston North section of the Public Service Association, while he is also secretary of the Manawatu Philatelic Society. For a number of years he was a member of St. Patrick’s Parish _ School Committee and for a long period has been actively associated with St. Patrick’s Football Club. He was club captain for several years and was one of the prime movers in the club going up to senior status in 1933. He was recently elected to the management committee of the Manawatu Rugby Union Horn which body he is now; resigning.
