TOWNSWOMEN'S GUILD.

ANNUAL MEETING

Decora!ions of zinnias, Michaelmas daisies, hydrangeas, dahlias, asters and fern brightened the Empire Hall for the fifth annual general meeting of the Palmerston North Townswomen’s Guild, yesterday afternoon. Mrs A. E. Mansford presided over a good attendance, and the door hostesses were Mrs F. Jackson and Miss M. Cranston. Mrs D. Evans had supplied all the flowers and arranged them, and had also made a number ol Easter posies which were offered for sale in aid of the guild funds. She was accorded a vote of thanks New members welcomed were Mosdames C. Comer, D. Griffin, W. Jemmett, C. Jones, A. Urry, M. Melton, F-. J. Cobh, J. Bavliss, 0. Smith (Brooklands), and Miss Hamilton. Resignations were received from Mosdames C. A. Thomas, Renwiek D. Rivers, Soroggs, and Misses Linton, several of whom have left the city.

Correspondence was received from headquarters regarding the closing of the financial year and the raising of funds for a typewriter for headquarters. Wishes for a successful annual meeting were also extended. The Wellington Central Townswomen’s Guild wrote congratulating the Palmerston North Guild on their excellent display at the Horticultural Society’s Show. Mrs K. S. Alanning wrote thanking the guild for florni tributes and sympathy in the death of her mother. Circle reports were received from Mesdamcs S. C. Toon (arts and crafts) W. Sneliing (drama). G. L.vnc (gardening), H. D. How ley (music), and K. S. Manning (civics). Afembers stood in silence as a mark of respect and sympathy with Airs K. S. Alanning in the loss of her mother and with Die relatives of the late Mrs W. Alills, a former guild member. Tlie report stated:—“There have boon 11 monthly meetings, with an average attendance of 170 members and 20 visitors. The committee have endeavoured to arrange programmes with items to interest all members and wish to thank all speakers _ and performers who have so ahlv assisted. The total of financial members now stands at 247. AVo have written off the hooks 50 members who have left the guild without anv notification. We have five circles which have Held 90 meetings in all during the year. The membership in the circles seems to be increasing each year and much praise is due to the arts and crafts, music circle and gardening circle. The drama circle had been in recess until late in the year and should, as it grows, give good results in the near future. AVo would ask members to take a more lively interest in the civic circle, as it would welcome new members. The committee wish to express thanks to all townspeople who have in any way assisted the guild during the past twelve months, as their ready co-operation on special occasions has often saved much work. The guild members have this year come forward and assisted many causes in the city, especially with the making and selling of roses for Mother’s Day, and others. In accordance with the rules, all officers and members retire annually; the same procedure is carried out by the circle officers. Alesdames E. AV. Drake, G. Stevens, ,J. Davidson and W. G. Black did not seek re-election.” The financial statement and treasurer’s report were taken in committee.

The hon. auditor (Air C. V. Day) was present to explain various points and was accorded thanks for his services. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. There was no election of officers ns the nominations did not exceed the number required. ’Hie new executive is as follows:—President, Airs Mansford; vice-presidents, Mesdames F. J. Nathan, J. A. Nash, A. M. Onglev, T. R. Moore and N. Blackmore; committee, Atesdames J. Barsanti, C Carruthers, E. AV. Drake, Lb Evans, M. Aitchison, F. Jackson, K. S. Alarming, and Aliss M. Cranston. Mrs Alanning was elected secretary-trea-surer.

Presentations were made to the .secretary-treasurer and the retiring treasurer, and a gift was also sent to the assistant-secretary (Mrs Rivers), the president paying a tribute to their work. A vote of thanks for her work as president was accorded Mrs Mansford on the motion of Mrs Woodroofe. Tea was served by Mesdames D. Evans, D. James and S. Toon (conveners) assisted by Mesdames Anderson, Carruthers, Eyne, Blcnkhorne.
