Mr and Mrs N. J. Greenwood, of Pascal Street, returned home to-day from Wellington.

Mrs \Y. T,. Ferguson, who has been staying with Mrs W. Mouldey, ol Featherston Street, returns home to Wellington to-morrow.

Miss E. Hoffer, of Palmerston North, who spent a holiday with friends at “Mountain View,” Stratford, has returned home. Mrs C. Brown, of Hastings, spent a few days in Palmerston North on her way to Wellington, from where she left to-day to visit her mother in England.

Miss B. Ross, of the staff of the Palmerston North Hospital, and her mother, Mrs J. Ross, of Southland, have gone to Sydney.

Miss Tomlinson, 8.A., of Bunnythorpe, and formerly of Auckland University, has gone to Napier -where she has joined the staff of the High School.

Mr and Mrs W. Mouldey and Miss M. Mouldey, of Featherston Street, have returned to Palmerston North after spending 12 days on a motor tour in the South Island. Their trip was a comprehensive one, embracing visits to the West Coast, Franz Josef Glacier and Dunedin.

A London message announces the retirement from the staff of the High Commissioner’s office of Miss Ellice Fitz Gerald, who has been reception officer since 1921. The staff presented Miss Fitz Gerald with a gramophone equipped with a supply of her favourite records. Prior to her going to England she had served at Base Records in the Dominion. She will live in Cornwall with her sister. Miss Fitz Gerald’s successor in the reception room is Miss Hanlon, formerly of Dunedin.

At the monthly meeting of the Palmerston North City Council, _ last night, it was decided that the resignation of Mrs E. L. Christian be accepted, on the recommendation of the library committee, and that she he thanked for the services she had rendered both as librarian and junior librarian, and that she be granted three months’ leave of absence on full pay. The Mayor (Mr A. E. Mansford) said the council was sorry to lose Mrs Christian’s services after 16 years. He was quite sure that the council had shown its appreciation in carrying the motion it had done. The council would extend its best wishes for her future. As chairman of the library committee, Cr. W. G. Rlack endorsed the remarks of the Mayor.
