SWIMMING EVENTS.
Per Prose Association. AUCKLAND, March 27. In an attempt to-night to lower the Now Zealand record for 100 yards backstroke, the Christchurch swimmer, N. Cliff, registered 65 3-59ec., breaking the time of P. G. Mathieson (Auckland) by three-fifths of a second. The hundred yards invitation scratch free style race was won by P. Hanan (Auckland), who beat the New Zealand sprint champion, R. Hatchwell (Wellington), by a yard in 54 3-ssec.
