LONDON WOOL SALES.
Received March 25, 8.5 a.m. LONDON, March 24. Prices at the wool sales yesterday included Nc.w Zealand greasy crossbred branded TLL. which averaged 9d, top price 9«d, ami scoured pieces branded Wa.imana averaged 17jd. Tho Bradford tops market is firm but unchanged. Short yardings of fat cattle at the Westfield sales in the past two weeks have confounded everyone’s expectations, states the Auckland Star. Farmers throughout the province have plenty of cattle which they cannot sell for export, as tile trade is held up for lack of shipping space. Feed is growing scarce owing to the continued dry weather, and yet the farmers are selling far less than usual on the local market, and, in spite of so.many factors tending to depress prices, there was-a sharp rise in beef at Wednesday’s Westfield-sale- Apparently, as a result of the recent decline in values, farmers have been holding on as long as they can in the hope of better prices in tho. near future. However, unless good rains fall, they may be forced to unload.
