WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.

OROUA DOWNS MEETING. There was a good attendance of members at the annual meeting of the Oroun Downs Women’s Institute on Tuesday, Airs Dench presiding. A letter was read from the secretary of the North Wellington Federation, which intimated that the competition this year at the Palmerston North Winter Show would he for a street of shop windows, each institute to choose a shop window ol whatever variety it would like to stage; also that arrangements were being made for a sub-com-mittee to undertake visiting members who are in hospital in Palmerston North. It was derided to join up with the Pan-Pacific Association. Mesdames Dench and Alartin were appointed delegates for the North Wellington Federation annual meeting. The birthday party is to be held on the usual institute day.

The secretary gave a concise report on the year’s activities and the treasurer presented the financial statement, which proved very satisfactory. The president on retiring thanked the secretary, treasurer, and members of tiic committee for their willing support, also members for their help and co-operation in making the year such a successful one. As she was not seeking re-election, she asked the members to give the new president the same help and consideration. Mrs Hobbs proposed a vote of thanks to Mrs Dench, which was carried by acclamation. As only the required number of candidates for a now committee was received an election was not necessary. The new committee elected is as follows: Mrs Smith (president), Mrs Marchant (secretary), Miss Christensen (treasurer), Mesdaines Dench and Francis (vice-presi-dents), Martin, Dates, T. Dalgetv, Williams, J. (lonian, Hobbs, and Miss Dates. Miss Francis was made official pianist Sub-committees elected were: Hall, Misses Dench and Cotton; competitions, senior, Mesdamcs I homsoii and Conlan : junior, Mesdames Williams and Howard; floral, Mrs Dench; library, Mesdames Funnel! and 1' rancis; trading stall, Mrs Cordon and Miss Dates ; Press, Mrs Procter ; Home and Countrv, Mrs R. Harvey; trophies, Kirs Oliver and Miss Christensen ; tea, Kirs Martin. Results of the monthly competitions were. —'Senior (wheatmeal scones), Kirs Batchelor 1, Kirs Alhrey 2, Kirs Reader A junior (sweets), Miss D. Christensen 1 Miss D. Christensen 2; floral, Miss P. TIAKITAIIUNA INSTITUTE. The annual meeting of the Tiakitahuna Institute was held recently, when Alls 11. N MoKwen presided. An interesting am detailed annual report was read ami adopted. Nominations for (lie new committee resulted in the following being elected: Mesdames 11. N. MrEwen (ieplected president, C. (-Voucher (vice-pre-sident), Richardson (treasurer), M. Levy (secretary), W. Rowland, and Misses L i tcarscyj McKwcn, K. Walker and M. Rowland. It was decided that Kliss Klw F.wan and Kirs Levy attend the annual meeting of the North Wellington Federation to he held in Palmerston North. A report of the group meeting was read by Mrs Oroueher. Arrangements were made for tlie institute birthday, and it was doelded to hold it in April, to take the form of a social and dance. The hostesses for the evening are Klesdames W. Hie competition for a presentation box of flowers was won by Kirs Croueher, with Mrs 11. KleFwen second and Mesdames lloarsey and D. Rowland, equal, third.
