AWAPUNI RACES.

FASHIONABLE CROWD PRESENT. GLORIOUS SUNSHINE PREVAILS. A largo and well-dressed crowd attended the Manawatu Racing Club’s autumn meeting at Awapuni yesterday. Although the weather was somewhat doubtful early in the day, most people ventured forth in their smartest apparel, and were amply rewarded by the glorious sunshine that prevailed. Alost of the interesting fashions of the moment were to Ikj seen, though few took advantage of the more colourful modes. Black predominated even more than usual, and was mostly accompanied bv white or pastel tints. There seemed to be less nn.vy blue, teal blue and Air Force blue l>eing the new shades which partly superseded it. Nigger brown and tans were plentiful, and clover remained a firm favourite. After the blue shades prune and ox-blood, with a sprinkling of greens, seemed the most popular of the new colours, few people attempting to wear the lovely dahlia and petunia ranges a wise conversation, perhaps, as they are not for everyone. As is usual at an autumn meeting, tailored styles were the vogue, neat suits being very popular and trim frocks worn with fox furs or fur capes. Hats were notable for the number of feathers of every sort and colour, and the hats themselves showed a wide diversity of shapes. Veils were still much worn though, naturally not so frequently as at the summer meeting. Mrs L. H. Collmson (wife of the president), wore a prune frock, moss green and brown tweed coat, fur stoic and black velvet hat trimmed with ribbon and feather; Mesdames J.
