HARRIER ACTIVITIES.

THE Y.AI.C.A. CLUB. A satisfactory season is reviewed in th® annual report 'of the Y.AI.C.A. Harrier Club, keenness having been maintained. After recounting the season’s successes, the report proceeds:—“Despite the undertaking of the West Coast championships, emailing more expenditure than previous years, ihe finances are still in a fairly satisfactory condition. The account at tho Y.AI.C.A. shows a credit balance of 12s 4d, a decrease of £1 15s on tho previous year. The account at the Post Office shows a credit balance of £6 18s 2d, this being a decrease of £1 5s Bd. The total lcs3 on the season’s workings, £5 0s Bd, was mainly due to tho championships. The total income obtained last season amounted to £24 9s 9d, compared with £2B 9s lOd for the 1937 season. In 1937 the inoemo derived from sweepstakes and competitions was £l7 6s; in 1938 (ho amount derived from tho same source amounted to £7 3s 6d. Tho early payment of subscriptions will be necessary to enable the club to meet the early financial obligations for the coming season. Tho attendance at tho weekly runs was very encouraging, tho average being about 15 runners every Saturday. In all 25 runs were held, N. Hcarsey being present for 25, D. McCardle 24. 8. MiVicax and .1. Scott 23, J. Spall and C. Waller 22, R. Lambert-on, S. Oxenliam and C. McVicar 21, J. Worley and K. Galloway 20, C. Holmes and L. Hawthorne 17. “J. Wood, vice-captain and ono of our most, promising runners, was unfortunately involved in a serious accident early in July, and did not run for the remainder of the season, ft is hoped, however, that ho will be running again when fit and well. Mr J. Eagle, last year’s president, filled this office excellently. His generosity in helping matters pertaining to the club was most appreciated. “During the present track season several members acquitted themselves very well. At the West, Coast championships held at Wanganui -recently T\. Galloway won tho high jump with a jump of sft. 95m., and [,. Hawthorne won the one-iuilo and threemile events in good time. O. Ale Vicar and R. Lambcrton finished third in tho 880yds. and three-mile championships, respectively. Galloway and Hawthorne also competed in the New Zealand athlotio championships at Napier. Wo take this opportunity of thanking those ladies who assisted in arranging the afternoon teas, the A r .A4.C.A> for the use of their facilities, Air and Airs S. Oxenham and Air and Airs W. K. Woodd for their generosity in inviting us to their respective residences for runs, supporters whose cars were lent for travelling, and the numerous other supporters who helped to make the season a success.”
