RECORDS CLAIMED.

PUBLIC WORKS JOBS

Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, March 24.

Several world records wore claimed by lion. R. Semple in a statement today in respect to mechanised jobs under way in New Zealand. Among them were the shifting of 2500 yards of rock daily at Ngahauranga Gorge, and 7000 yards on the Whenuapai aerodrome: also that the Homer tunnel would be the world’s steepest. The Minister stated that the Public "Works Department organisation would have an important hearing if a war occurred. With its wonderful machinery, it could throw up forts and dig protections, etc., overnight.
