KUMEROA-HOPELANDS INSTITUTE.

At the annual meeting of t-ho Kumeroa-Hopelands Women’s Institute Mrs Mack-ay presided over a good attendance. The motto was read by Miss P. Lynch. “Hints on Preserving,” each member giving her idea of methods used, provided an interesting roll-call. Mrs Bryant and Miss J. Bridges were appointed delegates to the annual council meeting to be held in Woodville. It was decided to send a letter to Airs Burnett, of \\ oodvillo, wishing her bon voyage on her visit to England, likewise to Airs Dickens, of Papatawa, who is shortly leaving for Australia. It was arranged to hold the monthly meetings on the third Wednesday of every month instead of Tuesday. Airs Norman presented the institute with an immersion heater, and a voto of thanks was accorded her.

The competition was best bloom in. the garden, which was won by Mrs Norman with Mrs O’Neil second; the competition for handkerchief made out of a salt bag was won by Mrs Mackay and Mrs O’Neil second. These were judged by Mrs L. Hills, of ITopelands, who was also elected a new member. The points prizes for the past year were responsible for keen competition, and were presented to the winners, Miss J. Bridges 1, and Mrs O’Neil and Miss Lynch, equal, second. Miss J. Brown (secretary) road the annual report, which revealed a great deal of useful work. A vote of thanks was accorded her for her valuable work. The treasurer (Miss N. Toogood) presented the balance-sheet, which showed a very satisfactory credit. Thanks were also extended to Miss Toogood. Mrs Mackay, who declined re-nomina-tion as president, was warmly thanked for the excellent service she had criven. The election resulted : President, Mrs B. H. Norman; vice-presidents, Mesdames Miller and Mackay; secretary, Miss M. Cranfield; treasurer, Mrs'j. O’Neil; Homo and Country agent. Miss N. Toogood; Press correspondent, Miss P.
