SLOVAK STATEMENT. Received March 24, 2.5 p.m. BRATISLAVA, March 23. The Defence Ministry lias issued a communication stating that Hungarian troops invaded Slovakia with three columns, totalling four infantry battalions, one bicycle company, one motorised regiment, including tanks, at 5.-30 a.m. The Hungarians penetrated deeply. At 2.30 p.m. the advance was stopped and could probably he held pending reinforcements. It is officially stated in Budapest that Slovakia has protested, pointing out that Hungarian troops are intruding into Slovak territory. Count C'saky (Hungarian Foreign Minister) lias promised an investigation. He added that Slovakia’s eastern frontier was inexactly defined ; there was thus a possibility of local incidents, but no _ question of organised military operations. It is declared that reports that Hungarians aro operating at Germany's inviation or acquiescence aro not true.
