CANADIAN DEFENCE.

REVISION OF PROGRAMME. TO MEET THREATS. Received March 24, 12.35 p.m. OTTAWA, March 23. In the House of Commons, answering a question, the Minister of Defence (Mr Jan Mackenzie) stated that Canada would immediately meet the Nazi threat of a German air base oil Iceland. The defence programme was being revised so as to concentrate on the Atlantic seaboard. Aggressive steps would be taken at once to establish new airports and powerful squadrons. In addition, said Mr Mackenzie, plans had been completed to guard every Canadian industrial plant, bridge, and highway from sabotage in tlie event of war.

The Minister of Justice (Mr Ernest Laponte) announced that the Government was considering a thorough _ inquiry into the subversive activities of organisations directed and financed from foreign lands.
