DOMINION CONVENTION. The third day of Lhe annual Women’s Christian Temperance Union convention, being held in Wellington began with a devotional service arranged and conducted b.v the “Y” branch of the convention. The address was given by Miss Britain ; and voca.l items were presented by other mem bers. Business included discussions on the cradle roll, and legal and parliamentary reports which were adopted. Many questions as to the understanding of legal points were put to Miss Henderson, who answered promptly. Tlie first of a series of informative talks on “Some aspects of the liquor traffic” was given by Miss Henderson, whose subject was “Expenditure _ in Cash.” Treating the matter entirely front the economists’ viewpoint, the speaker dealt with revenue front the sale of liquor. It was claimed hv the speaker that from the cost to the community of the effects of alcohol during the past 10 years. 43 97R houses, of an average value of £1"00. could have been built. These would have gone far to solve housing problems. YOUNG PEOPLE’S MOVEMENT. The final session of the Young People’s Christian Temperance Union was held on Saturday, when the following officers were elected :—President. Miss E Long; vice-presidents, North Island, .Mr H. E. Grin stead; South Island. Miss R n't tain : secretary, Miss A. Beek; treasurer, Mr N. Sly: correspondence bureau secretary. Mbs B Vann: sunerintendent correspondence (Dominion). Miss M. Bradley; intendent literature department, Miss E. Bramble. Tbe results of competitions held by the Palmerston North branch of the Plunket Society, in connection with their recent Street" Day appeal, are advertised in this issue.
