PERSONAL Miss A. Ross is on holiday in Nelson Messrs P. Moriarly and D. J. O’Donnell, of the Pahiatua Post Office staff, are to be transferred shortly. Mr Moriartv to Feilding and Mr O’Donnell to Huntorvillc. Mr and Mrs 0. Penwarden and Mrs D. Evans, of New Plymouth, who are touring the North Island, were the guests of Mr and Mrs N. 1). Warcham. of Hopelands, during the week-end. Miss Aureen Jones, ’ of Pahiatua, has been on a visit to Waipawa. Nurse E. McDonald, formerly Piunket nurse in Pahiatua and Woodville, is now located at Takapau. POST OFFICE PICNIC. The Pahiatua Poet Office staff held its first picnic for a number of years at the Marima Domain during the* week-end. Tennis and swimming were indulged in by those present. The results of the sporta are as follows: —Girls’ wheelbarrow race: N. Taylor and N. Dolman; boys, J. Kit ehen and J. Dolman. Spinsters’ race: Miss P. Gunn 1, Miss J. Goer 2. Staff handicap: G. Patchett 1, D. O’Connell 2, L. Hamilton 3. Married ladies' race: Mrs Anscombe 1, Mrs Howat 2. Girls' relay race. R. Bovens’ team; boys. ,T. Kitchen’s team.

Kitchen (dead-heat). POWER BOARD. At the monthly meeting of the Tararun Electric Power Board it was reported that in the Pahiatua area maintenance work had kept the staff busy for the greater part of the month. A number of service lines in the Borough had been overhauled and new conductors run where the installations showed signs of deterrioration. A patrol of the Makuri line had been carried out and poles which wore moved during the recent storms had been straightened. One 11.000-volt strain insulator had shattered, some of the pieces showing evidence of a rifle bullet. One of the double cross arms had been burned off but fortunately the wires did not come to earth; this would have cut the power off the whole of the Paitiatua district. CRICKET. In a cricket match. Pahiatua made 202 runs in their first innings (Fredrickson 68, Barraclough 40. McKay 23, Smyth 20, R. Mills 13; Small captured 8 wickets). Firo Brigade compiled 96 (Dungan 38, Murch 19, Bradbury 10; Fredrickson took 6 wickets). LAWN TENNIS. Mangamutu heat Makomako by 22 sets and 156 games to 2 sets and 79 games in a Badger Cup tennis match. In a match for the Lott Buttons, tho challengers, V. Brown and Miss M. Miller, beat, tho holders, W. Darley and Airs Darley, 40—33. FARMERS INJURED. AA’hen the ear in which they were travelling came into collision with a bridge near Grcytown, on Saturday, two Nircaha farmers. Messrs J. Spring and C. Goss, suffered severe Facial injuries, and were admitted to hospital. The. car, a new one, which was being driven by Mr Spring, was extensively damaged.
