BENEFIT OF DOUBT. Charged with overtaking another motor vehicle without 300 feet of clear visibility ahead. Charles Watkins ot ltongotea, for whom Air T. F. Belling appeared, pleaded not guilty heroic Air H P. Lawrv, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court at Palmerston North, to-day. , TT .. , . . Traffic Inspector .T. TT. Semple stated that defendant had overtaken and passed a ear with a horse-box trailer, on the crest, of the steep lull on the Ashhurst side of the bridge over the Manawatu River, near the Gorge. Witness had parked his ear 75 mice* from the" top of the hilt along Hie flat towards Ashhurst, and it was invisible from a distance of 100 paces down the Counsel said that defendant had followed the trailer all through the Gorge and when he was just behind it. on the hill the motor vehicle towing it appeared likelv to stop or change gear. He pulled out to pass it and could see for half-a-milc ahead towards Asliliurst. There was no traffic approach--111 Commenting that there seemed to he some doubt, the Magistrate said he would give defendant the benefit. J lie case was dismissed.
