RIFLE SHOOTING.
There was only a small attendance on the Ashhurst rifle range, on Saturday. The shoot was to have been at 800 -and 900 yards, but because of the wind, which was of gale force, the shoot at 900 yards was abandoned, and the day completed at 300 yards. So strong was the wind that with only six feet targets up a man had to bo kept in the pit to look after the posts and target pins while the 800 yards shoot was completed. The windago variations during the afternoon -were from 11 degrees left to one degree right, with a left rear wind. Scores:—R. A. Jones, 47—46—93; M. Hausmann, 47 —43 —90; C. - burner, 47—42 89; J. Henson, 42—46—88; J. B. Scarlo, 46—41 —87; L. AVotton, 42—43—85.
Local authorities in Great Britain will be responsible for the spending of £500,000,000 this year; in 1914 the figure stood at £148,300,000.
