(From Our Own Correspondent.) SHANNON. Feb. 20. • At the School Committee meeting last week final arrangements were made for the , school. picnic to be held on the 25th inst i at Plimmerton. A very successful street , stall was held to raise funds for the picnic, and with donations received it is hoped to [ ' &i y c the pupils free rail transport. The . | school reopened after the summer holidays i with a roll of 293. The present roll is 305, L I reported the headmaster, and the attendance average is 275. Miss Finlay, infant mistress, has resumed her position after a year’s abvscnce on exchange in and around Melbourne. Miss Chaney has been appointed probationary assistant, while Miss .Myers fills the A grade position as warranted by the increased roll in 1938. Miss WoodrufTc has been appointed to the Palmerston North Central School and leaves on promotion at the end of this month. In the Hall cricket championships on Saturday, Levin easily disposed of Shannon. Levin compiled 205 for 9 wickets, Bell making 119 not out. Shannon made 44 runs. The Levin Tennis Club, in the inter-club | competition played at Shannon on Saturday,) were aso victorious by a wide margin. I Rev. A. Mr J. Roach will represent the local Bowling Club in the champion of champions game in Palmerston North. Messrs Whildoy and C. Hook will play in the pairs. Mr G. W. Searby and Mr L. Hansen, of Audit Office, arc at present in Shannon.
