CENTENNIAL MEMORIAL. PROPOSALS INVITED. A public meeting has been convened by the Mayor and tire county chairman for the purpose of considering the proposed nature of the Woodville district Centennial memorial. Citizens and settlers arc to be invited to submit ideas of a practical nature, in keeping with the commemoration, and which will not involve heavy expenditure. The Mayor and the county chairman will explain the position of the local contributing bodies. It is hoped that residents will interest themselves in the Hawke’s Bay Centennial provincial court and their own . district memorial. Particulars of the public meeting appear in this issue. GARDEN ~CIRCLE.
Members of the Papatawa garden circle met at the residence of Mrs L. E. Gleadow, Maharahara, when there was a good attendance. Mrs R. Cunningham presided and extended a warm welcome to all. The members stood in silence as a mark of respect for a member who had recently suffered a bereavement. Most of the members stated they would have entries in the show at Woodville. Mrs W. Galbraith gave a comprehensive description of her visit to the National Show at New Plymouth, which was eagerly followed by all. It was decided to purchase a quantity of sweet pea seeds for autumn sowing. Competitions resulted as follow: Best bloom, Mrs R. Cunningham 1, Mrs R. James and Miss Knyvett (equal) 2. Miss Knyvett illustrated a method of preserving hydrangea blooms with hot water, and also distributed excellent lemons grown in her own garden. Mrs Gleadow was accorded a vote of thanks for the use of her home. The next meeting is to be held at the residence of Mrs \Y. Harding, Pinfold Road. WOODVILLE SALE.
Abraham and WillianivS, Ltd., report a good yarding of all classes of sheep at the Woodville sale. The entire flock offered' on account of the Estate of James Scally met •with keen competition throughout, . the young ewes selling under keen competition, as did the ewe lambs. Several lines of Pongaroa and Alfredton ewes also sold readily at full late rates. An outstanding offering of 2-th ewes on account of Mr Frank Ormond, which were passed at auction, were ultimately sold at 31s. Quotations: Account Estate J. Scally: 2-th ewes, 25s lOd; 4 and 6-th ewes, 25s 6d; 4 and 5-yr ewes, 15s 10d; aged ewes, very low mouths, 9s 6d; ewe lambs (tops) 20s, medium 16s 6d, others 15s; wether lambs, 12s Id, small 7s Id; 2-th wethers, 17s Id. Other quotations: Woolly b.f. lambs, 13s 6d, 14s to 15s; shorn wether lambe (good), 15s; medium wether lambs, 10s, 10s 6d, 11«, 12s; 5-yr ewes, 96, 10s, 11s, 12s to 16s 6d.
